About LifeaseŽ, Inc.
. . . turn darkness into light . . .
and make the rough places smooth. Isaiah: 42:16b
The mission of LifeaseŽ, Inc. is to help people live
independently and comfortably in their own homes as long as
possible by linking seniors and people with disabilities to
products and ideas that are applicable to their particular needs
and concerns.
LifeaseŽ, Inc. was founded by
Margaret Christenson in 1991
as a post grant continuation of a Phase I SBIR Grant from the
Administration on Aging, DHHS. Research demonstrated that many
people - particularly seniors and people with disabilities - whose
lives could benefit from assistive technology or home
modifications have not made these changes in their homes or do not
use the appropriate products.
It is speculated that this absence may be due to several things.
1) People do not know the technologies or adaptations exist or 2)
Rehabilitation professionals or others that advise are unable to
find the best solution(s) for the particular need.
As a result of these findings, LifeaseŽ, Inc. developed its
first software program. Then, as now, it links a person's abilities and potential home problems to possible product and idea solutions. These solutions can help the person adapt the environment to compensate or circumvent these problematic situations.
Lifease has offered its EaseŽ software system to professional
occupational therapists who have used it over the past decade to
help their clients with disabilities to live as independently as
possible in their own homes. With LivAbilitysm,
this powerful tool is now made available to general consumers
so they, too, can improve their living environments.
That's why, over 40 colleges and universities nationwide teach it
in their occupational therapy programs. And
throughout the nation, professionals in hospitals, assisted living
centers, nursing homes and rehabilitation clinics use the
assessment software in their work.
